Creative Digital Media

This course will appeal to prospective digital creatives. We’ll help you find and develop your creativity and give you the tools and techniques to express it. Our student groups blend filmmakers, graphic designers, web designers, app developers and animators into a creative, exciting mix. We look for students with passion and flair, good visual awareness, and an interest in media, design, the internet and technology.This dynamic course will supply you with the practical, creative and technical skills you need to succeed in the digital society and creative industries. It covers everything from graphic design, web design, photography, audio engineering, video production, filmmaking, interative design, UX, 3D Modelling, Virtual Reality and more.

With state-of-the-art Mac labs, production studios, and digital media hardware, you’ll gain first-hand experience of cutting edge industry tools and techniques. Our academic team is rich in industry and creative experience and have supervised a wide range of award winning student projects .

During your studies, you will have access to a wide range of industry standard production equipment. You’ll have easy online access to course materials, and on-site support from enthusiastic academic staff willing to share their creative expertise and knowledge with you.

Work Placement: There’s an optional 12-week work placement in Year 3, Semester 2. Each year students are placed with some of Ireland leading creative agencies and production houses, gaining incredible first hand insights into the professional practice of some of the best creative talent in the country.

Biomedical & Molecular Diagnostics

Biomedical Science is the science related to medical conditions – their causes, diagnosis and treatment. Molecular diagnostics is the use and development of novel technologies to enable faster and more personalised diagnosis, often using DNA-based approaches.

A unique feature of the course is the way diagnostic and analytical sciences are integrated with bioproduct design and development. It also includes modules in transferable skills such as basic programming and bioinformatics.

In Years 3 and 4, semester-long work placements and research projects provide an invaluable opportunity for you to gain real-life skills and experience, and to apply academic knowledge in a real-world setting.

Year 1 covers the core sciences and introduces you to Biomedical Science and Molecular Diagnostics. In Year 2, you’ll further study Biochemistry and Cell and Molecular Biology, together with modules in Biomedical Science disciplines as well as Bioinformatics and Biostatistics modules.

In Year 3, you will undertake a 14-week professional work placement in an industry or research organisation, and also study Biosensor and Bioproduct Development, an integrated topic supported by modules in genetic engineering, pharmacology and toxicology and data analytics.

In the final year, you’ll study core modules in Molecular Diagnostic as applied to Microbiology, Oncology (Cancer) and Genetics, and in Point of Care Diagnostics, and will prepare for your future career with bio entrepreneurship and bioindustry skills.

Finally, in your final year, you’ll undertake a 12-week research project, based in TU Dublin, in industry laboratories/organisations, or national and international research centres (under the Erasmus/Socrates scheme).

Biomolecular Science

In preparation for the scientific project, the principles and practice of qualitative and quantitative analysis of biomolecules as well as research methods and data analysis will be studied.

Two optional pathways (taken alongside core modules) allow students to tailor their degree to areas of interest:

Option 1 provides students with the key concepts of process design relating to biomolecules of industrial importance and the development, manufacturing and marketing of biopharmaceutical products.

In Option 2 the molecular and genetic mechanisms of disease will be explored including practical application of investigative and diagnostic technology.

It is important to note that options are offered subject to: (a) the resources available and (b) student numbers requesting the option (there is a requirement for a minimum student registration on a module). In any given year only one of the two optional pathways may be offered.

Business – (1 year add-on to TU784, TU777 or TU771)

Building on a strong foundation in the key aspects of business you will gain deep understanding of organisations and how teams and individuals behave in organisational settings. The broad and varied range of subjects will provide you with the practical, work-ready skills you need to get a job in a variety of companies, including project management, customer service, marketing, human resource management and financial executive roles. The course covers modules in Strategic Management, Financial Information Analysis, Project Management and European languages (French / German / Spanish).

The final year will prepare you to assist prospective employers in strategy development in an organisational setting.

Business & Law

BSc Business and Law (TU904) is an attractive degree in both business and law. Graduates of the course have a combination of business acumen and legal knowledge and this skillset offers great career flexibility, opening up a wide array of career opportunities in business and in the legal profession. Our graduates are uniquely equipped with the analytical and advocacy skills developed through legal training, combined with the numeracy and financial literacy of a business degree.

The first two years are designed to provide a solid foundation in the fundamental disciplines in business – accounting, economics, quantitative methods, management, marketing, human resources and operations as well as a rigorous grounding in core aspects of the law. This approach allows students to get a taste of the different aspects of both business and law in the first half of their degree. Using the core knowledge acquired in the first two years of study, in Years 3 and 4 students can choose from a wide range of optional advanced modules in both business and law. At this point students can continue to study both disciplines, or they can choose to primarily specialise in either or business or law, depending on their personal interests or career aspirations.

Lectures and tutorials on BSc Business and Law (TU904) are delivered in small class sizes to facilitate greater interaction and active learning. A diverse range of teaching approaches are adopted including formal lectures with tutorial support, business case-study analysis, debates, role play, industry project work, charity events, simulation exercises and networking events. Of particular note is the opportunity for students to take part in both national and international business strategy case study competitions in the final year of the course.

In Year 3 all students on BSc Business and Law (TU904) have the opportunity to study abroad for the entire year in one of our more than 50 partner universities around the world.

BSc Business and Law (TU904) is recognised by the professional accounting bodies – Chartered Accountants Ireland (CAI) and the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) and exemptions are available from these bodies for graduates who pursue the specialist accounting stream. This course is accredited by King’s Inns as a qualifying law degree for the purposes of admission to the Barrister at Law Degree. It also offers all of the modules examined by the Law Society of Ireland in their Final Examination First Part.

This course is recognised by King’s Inns as a qualifying law degree for the purposes of admission to the Barrister at Law degree. The recognition is however dependent upon students making specific module choices during the course of the course.

Business & Management

BSc Business and Management (TU903) is the largest undergraduate Level 8 business degree in the College of Business, TU Dublin City Campus.

The first two years are designed to provide a solid foundation in the fundamental disciplines in business – accounting, economics, quantitative methods, management, marketing, human resources and operations. This approach allows students to get a taste of the different aspects of business in the first half of their degree. Of particular note is the opportunity for students to take part in both national and international business strategy case study competitions in the final year of the course.

In Year 3 all students on BSc Business and Management (TU903) have the opportunity to either study abroad for the entire year in one of our more than 50 partner universities around the world, or to complete a 16-20-week paid work placement. Placement partners include leading companies in all the key business sectors, including accounting, financial services, pharmaceutical, retail, information and communications technologies and consultancy.

BSc Business and Management (TU903) is designed to equip graduates for an increasingly diverse and changing economy and as such the content and structure of the course evolve in response to new developments in business and management practice. In addition to taking advantage of immediate employment opportunities, graduates are equipped to proceed to postgraduate studies leading to the award of MSc, MPhil or PhD at research institutes and universities worldwide.

Business (common entry)

Are you that person that knows you want to take a business course but don’t want to confine yourself to one specific business interest? Then this is for you. This is a wonderful opportunity to learn about the dynamic business environment across a multi offering of modules. You will be offered practical and applied based module learning across a varied range of subjects, including Project Management, Marketing, Human Resource Management, Accounting, European Languages (French / German / Spanish), and Business Information Systems.

Business Analytics

Business Analytics is about converting business data into valuable information through the use of statistical techniques and advanced software. It provides a set of analytical methods for solving problems and aiding decision-making, particularly in the context of large quantities of data. Combining such analysis with intuition can provide insights to businesses and public sector organisations and help them achieve their objectives.

By developing and applying models and concepts, you can explore management issues and solve managerial problems. Many different organisations use the principles and practice of analytics.

In this course, you’ll acquire the data skills to extract, analyse, organise and present data to guide successful business decision-making.

Subjects covered include statistics, OO programming, management, marketing, database systems, algorithms & data structures, project management, big-data concepts, intelligent systems, business decision-making, business intelligence, software development for data acquisition, and strategic information systems.

You’ll be encouraged to participate in a work placement in Year 3.

Study Abroad Opportunities
In Year 3, you will have the option to study abroad for one semester in a partner University.

Business Computing

This course aims to develop skilled IT professionals with strong software and related skills and a good knowledge of how businesses function.

It combines computer studies, particularly software development, with business subjects. On graduating, you’ll combine technical, business and interpersonal skills regarded as being important to industry, and that are in constant demand by employers.

The technical skills include a high level of proficiency in Object-Oriented Software Development through Java and Ruby. The Interpersonal Skills, Communication Skills and the Project Management modules along with a work placement will develop your personal effectiveness in the workplace, while business and information systems topics provide a framework for workplace effectiveness. In Year 3, you can choose to go on a work placement or an Erasmus exchange.

On graduating, you may proceed to postgraduate studies leading to the award of MSc, MPhil or PhD at research institutes and universities worldwide.

Business Studies

The Bachelor of Business Studies is a level 8 honours degree designed exclusively for advanced entry applicants with relevant higher or further education or an equivalent seeking to pursue a career in business. The course commences in year two and is tailored to equip graduates with leading-edge knowledge and skills, preparing them for successful business careers.

A focus on continuous innovation means that the course is regularly updated, staying on top of industry trends and ensuring that graduates develop the competencies sought by leading employers. there is regular engagement with industry partners through live company projects, community-based work and expert guest speakers.
