Many European societies have well-established sets of policies and legislation in place regarding the integration of migrants. However, they often lack a comprehensive and cohesive approach to meeting the needs of those arriving in crisis situations from a multiplicity of cultural and linguistic environments as well as the needs of the society in which they are settling.

The School of Applied Language and Intercultural Studies offers a Masters of Arts in Refugee Integration. This programme develops an in-depth, multi-faceted knowledge of issues raised by the arrival of international protection applicants and refugees in different jurisdictions.

Upon completion of this programme, you’ll:

Demonstrate and apply an understanding of a broad range of theological perspectives in comparative perspective and the contribution of world religions and interfaith dialogue to the contemporary search for meaning and values, justice and peace;
Display a critical awareness of current scholarship in specific areas of comparative theology, and of key issues in ecumenism and interreligious dialogue;
Know how to analyse and critique historical and contemporary theological and religious texts, with particular emphasis on primary sources;
Be able to undertake theological research, present written research and engage in theological dialogue in a variety of contexts in the academy, in church and faith communities, and in society.

International Security and Conflict Studies DC629

This MA can be completed in one year on a full-time basis, or in two years on a part-time basis.

As a full-time student, you’ll take three core modules in Semester 1, along with a research methodology class. In Semester 2, you’ll take three modules from a range of thematic- and region-focused options. A 15,000 word dissertation is due in September.

If you’re a part-time student, you’ll complete all modules (three core modules, a research methodology class, and three optional modules) over the course of two years, taking one or two modules per semester. A 15,000 word dissertation is due in September of Year 2.

The programme features seminars and presentations by guest speakers—including politicians, officials, academics and diplomats—that prompt you to explore key issues in international politics, security, and development, as well as to build connections to key practitioners.

You should apply for this programme if you are interested in media coverage of politics, the role of spin, fake news, agenda-setting, public relations, political advertising and digital media. All taught modules combine political communication theory and practice. Students also prepare a dissertation as a piece of independent academic research in a political communication subject area of their choice.

Management (Aviation Leadership) DC525

The MSc in Aviation Leadership is a specialist postgraduate programme designed to provide participants with aviation knowledge in all key aviation sectors combined with an education in strategic management.

The teaching faculty possess academic expertise and a wealth of industry experience, with many having backgrounds across all branches of the industry – airlines, airports, ATC and regulatory offices.

The programme’s Guest Lecture series exposes students to leading aviation managers’ views of the important current issues in aviation and the challenges facing senior aviation managers. The content of the course is guided by our Aviation Industry Advisory Board and reflects current & future issues and trends in the global aviation industry.

Athletic Therapy and Training (DC204)3 to 5-month internship

Year One begins with anatomy and the basic sciences, giving you an understanding of the anatomy of the body and the pathophysiology of injury. You’ll also study the theory and practice that underpin physical conditioning to prevent and rehabilitate injury, and enhance health and performance.

In Year Two, you’ll start to learn how to assess, treat and rehabilitate injuries and further develop the theory and practice of training. You’ll also undertake First Aid and Emergency Care to prepare you to provide pitch-side assistance in various sports. In addition, you’ll start the clinic modules that will continue each semester for the remainder of the course. These modules will provide you with clinical field experience, as well as allow you to assist in the student-led sports injury clinic based within the school.

You’ll spend Year Three expanding your knowledge and learning in-depth principles of rehabilitation, therapeutic modalities and soft tissue therapies.

In the first half of Year Four, you’ll gain three to five months of experience working full-time in a clinical setting in Ireland or abroad (including athletic therapy and training facilities in American universities). The latter half of the fourth year includes a major research project.
