Digital & International Business
Through the use of digital technologies, graduates will be able to identify and support the pursuit of new business opportunities, enhance trading processes and keep abreast of new trends.
Graduates will be able to apply the theories of strategic management to develop entry strategies into international markets while, at the same time, being able to adapt to the cultural environments of these markets.
The course will provide learners with a set of professional and personal skills that collectively enhance employability. Creativity will be emphasised throughout the course to help learners develop a reflective, problem-solving and entrepreneurial mindset in the context of digital business.
International Tourism Management
The BA (Hons) in International Tourism Management will provide a pathway for those wishing to pursue a career in the vibrant, worldwide, tourism industry.
Tourism is one of the world’s largest worldwide industries and is forecast as one of the fastest-growing global sectors. In Ireland, tourism is seen as one of the most important economic sectors with significant potential to contribute to Ireland’s continued growth, with forecasted growth in employment to 250,000 by 2025 (Irish Tourism Industry Confederation).
Musical Theatre
The programme provides essential and comprehensive training in the three tenets of musical theatre, namely acting, singing and dancing, alongside academic modules that provide a strong theoretical framework to lead to a well-rounded graduate. Students will undertake skills development in the use of the voice for both sung and spoken word, and the use of the body for dance and drama, leading to creative modules in choreography and improvisation. The modules have been designed to have a clear progression through each of the three years culminating in musical theatre productions in year three.
Particular attention is given to training students for the professional world. This includes preparation for auditions, creating audition portfolios and meeting with active directors and producers.
Public Relations
The BA (Hons) in Public Relations is a level 8 course designed to deliver graduates capable of achieving valued careers in the ever expanding arena that is Public Relations, on the domestic and international level. Modules in Crisis Management, PR Specialisms, MarComm Agency Lab, and Action Research & Project Planning are delivered by a skilled and experienced team.
With a pragmatic hands-on approach throughout, graduates are work-ready for this dynamic industry. Graduates are not only encouraged to be proficient in the use of the most recent communication technology, but also to understand and appreciate the societal ramifications of its use. Those taking this Level 8 degree will be much sought after in the labour market and may well create their own business start-up.
Science (Award Options: Environmental Bioscience OR Biopharmaceutical Science)
Entry into this common entry-level 8 Science course allows you the opportunity to experience both areas before specialising into their preferred Award option in year 3, namely Biopharmaceutical Science or Environmental Bioscience.
Years one and two of this Science course will focus on the fundamental sciences and will include some specific Biopharmaceutical and Environmental content, to allow you to choose your preferred career pathway. In years three and four the students will specialise into their preferred stream leading to one of 2 Award options:
BSc (Hons) in Biopharmaceutical Science
BSc (Hons) in Environmental Bioscience
The Department will determine the viability of each option proceeding depending on the number of students who choose either option. If the numbers for one of the Award options exceed available places, students for this option will be selected based on Academic Merit (highest grades).
Social Care
This 4-year course prepares students work a rewarding career in social care, a profession characterised by working in partnership with people who experience marginalisation, or disadvantage, or who have special needs. Students will explore and analyse the development of current and future trends in social care in Ireland and how legislation in this area is drafted and regulated. As well as learning about different models of social care and their appropriateness to different situations, you will also learn how to deliver a social care service, both alone and as part of a team, to people in community, day-care and residential settings.
Sport, Excerise and Enterprise
This 3-year Level 7 degree course presents students with a unique opportunity to develop leadership and entrepreneurial skills in an environment that demands academic rigour as well as practical application. The sports and exercise element of the programme focuses on activities the general population engage in throughout the life course. While the Enterprise and Business elements of the programme focus on modules in creativity, innovation and teamwork, entrepreneurship, new venture development, social entrepreneurship and graduate life skills.
Event Management
Do you aspire to work within the Meetings, Incentive Travel, Conferences and Exhibitions (MICE) sector? If so, this 3-year BA in Events Management degree course is for you! Successful managers are needed within the Events industry, and this programme has been developed to enable graduates keep abreast of current issues, emerging trends and contemporary management practices.
Film & Television Production
Delivered by highly respected professionals, using industry standard equipment, this four year honours degree is practically based, designed specifically to prepare you for the workplace and to advance your skills to the highest level. The course is over 60% practical and allows students to specialise in areas such as TV Studio Production, Documentary Film Production and Drama Production for Film and Television. It also includes an industry work placement in Year 3. Over 90% of our students are in work or further study after graduating
Engineering Entrepreneurship
This honours degree in Engineering Entrepreneurship is multidisciplinary course, combining Engineering with Business.
The aim of the course is to produce graduates who are not only competent in the core engineering skills, but who also have a mind-set capable of recognising and pursuing business opportunities. The course is ideal for Level 7 graduates, with a broad engineering background who want to develop entrepreneurial, problem-solving and analytical abilities.
Central to the course is the New Venture Development module where students are required to develop an idea in terms of its technical and business aspects.
