The programme MSc in Applied Mathematics is one of two taught postgraduate courses delivered by the School of Mathematical Sciences. It offers a broad range of topics in applied mathematics and is suitable for applicants from a wide variety of backgrounds. It is designed to cater not only for those who wish to develop an advanced level of mathematical knowledge and practical skills relevant to problem solving in diverse, real-world contexts but also for those that simply wish to develop their understanding and appreciation of a fundamental branch of mathematics.
The course can be undertaken either full time over 3 semesters (approximately 18 months) or part time over 6 semesters (3 years) and is structured to suit both full-time students and those that are combining study with a career or family life. New entrants can start the programme either in September or January. The programme encourages students to engage in autonomous, self-directed learning whilst providing a supportive environment where lecturers and stage coordinators facilitate and mentor learning.
The course will emphasise the use of mathematics to solve problems and will build students’ mathematical knowledge and their ability to analyse problems and apply advanced mathematical techniques in a rigorous manner. Successful applicants will require a primary degree at second-class or higher classification and will be drawn from computing, engineering, mathematics, physics and other scientific and numerate backgrounds. Graduates of MSc Applied Mathematics will be flexible, highly-qualified, technical professionals with advanced analytical and problem-solving skills suitable to enter, and apply their knowledge in, a wide range of sectors and professions.
The MSc in Computer Science (Advanced Software Development) aims to produce graduates with the knowledge and skills to develop the complex software solutions that organizations need to compete in the emerging global digital economy.
The target audience is those with an undergraduate qualification in computer science or software development. Students will study advanced technical modules in programming, design, databases, architecture and web development to acquire the technical knowledge needed to practice as software developers working on leading edge development projects. In addition students will be equipped with key professional, technical communications skills needed to practice as a professional in the computing industry.
The MSc in Computer Science (Data Science) course aims to produce graduates with the knowledge and skills to work with large amounts of raw data and extract meaningful insights from it. Graduates are equipped with deep technical skills (in data management, data mining, probability and statistics, and machine learning), but also with the softer skills (in communications, research and problem solving) required to work effectively within organisations.

It is suitable for applicants with a strong mathematical background who wish to develop their knowledge and appreciation of advanced mathematical topics as a preparation for research or to enter highly technical, research-focussed roles in business or industry. Graduates will acquire the analytical skills to perform advanced professional and technical roles.

TU258 MSc Pharmaceutical Quality Assurance & Regulation (Full Time): This course is offered on a one year full-time basis followed by the completion a 6 months industry-relevant dissertation. It is designed to provide a bridge for graduates with a degree in science or related disciplines to the specific requirements of the pharmaceutical sector. The course offers a broad based curriculum covering aspects of quality assurance, auditing, manufacturing in the pharma/biopharmaceutical sectors
Sustainable Development is at the heart of environmental, social and economic policies being developed and enacted by business, state and NGOs. This course, which includes a work placement, provides a broad knowledge and understanding of sustainable development including the issues, techniques, management and applications relevant to the living and working environment.
The course aims to provide graduates with the skills and ability to interpret principles of sustainable development and translate these into policy responses.
Each course entrant brings an expertise based on prior learning and or work experience. The MSc Sustainable Development is structured to build on and deepen your knowledge and allow you apply the principles and practices of sustainable development in your own field of expertise or employment. The course also offers you the chance to deepen your knowledge in chosen areas of energy, environment, community development or planning.
Dietitians apply knowledge of food, nutrition and other disciplines such as biochemistry, physiology and social science to promote health, prevent disease and help to manage illness.
This course offers you an integrated training in the science of nutrition and dietetics, and its applications to human health and well-being both at the individual and community level.
This joint TU Dublin/TCD BSc course is the only such degree course in the Republic of Ireland. Students are registered in TU Dublin and TCD.
The broad aim of the course is to produce graduates who are competent to practice at entry level as a dietitian or public health nutritionist or work as a nutrition expert in the industrial and/or private sector.
You’ll learn how to apply core science knowledge to dietetics and human nutrition, and will develop scientific and analytical skills. To ensure capacity for evidence-based practice, there’s a strong emphasis on developing problem-solving skills, and the ability to review and critically evaluate scientific data and information and to undertake research and development in dietetics and nutrition. You’ll benefit greatly from work placements in Years 1, 2 and 4.
The course is specifically tailored to the needs of aspiring orchestral and choral conductors. Based at TU Dublin Conservatoire, which has a long tradition in the provision of performing arts education, the course aims to facilitate the artistic, intellectual and creative development of students by providing an integrated and structured programme with performance experience in a wide range of solo and ensemble contexts, underpinned by complementary academic, research and professional studies.
The course aims to provide a postgraduate qualification in performance for:
applicants who have already completed an undergraduate degree in music with a high level of performance and aspire towards a professional career in performance
applicants who have professional performing experience and wish to pursue further study in their chosen area
The Master of Arts in Law (Professional) is a post-graduate law degree providing a pathway to both branches of the legal profession. It also offers a firm grounding in law for those wishing to pursue careers in public service, regulation, professional services and other sectors requiring comprehensive legal knowledge and analytical skills.
The course aims to provide students with a deep understanding of the institutional framework and principles of Irish Law, enabling them to apply and critically evaluate legal rules and processes. Students will learn how to draw upon legal sources to propose novel solutions to a range of regulatory difficulties and thus develop high-level reasoning and analytical skills. They will acquire advocacy and policy development skills through engagement with a range of social, commercial and regulatory issues at a national and EU level.
All core professional subjects including those examined by both the Law Society and King’s Inns entrance examinations are offered on the course, which is an accredited law degree for the purposes of King’s Inns admission.
The course is offered on a modular basis; students must take Legal Skills in their first year of registration, but can choose their remaining modules from the full suite offered.

Full-time students are expected to devote approximately 40 hours per week to class attendance and self-study. Examinations are held once a year in May. Coursework is set throughout the academic year.
Graduates of any discipline who wish to pursue a career in law will find that the Master of Arts in Law (Professional) provides them with a comprehensive grounding in the academic discipline of law. The course is accredited by King’s Inns as a qualifying law degree and also offers a structured pathway to completion of the Law Society’s Final Examination Part 1 over two years.
The course is also suitable for those who may have earned their primary degree some years ago and who wish to retrain or re-enter the workforce. No prior knowledge of law is expected.
The course will also be of interest to those already working in the legal industry who wish to upskill and to public servants and other professionals who engage with law in their day-to-day work. The timetable for the course has been configured to allow those in employment to complete over 4 years part-time by attending one day per week.
