Science in Computing

The overall aim of this programme, leading to the (Major) award of Higher Diploma is to provide learners with the necessary theoretical and practical skills, knowledge and competence, to gain a comprehensive, strong and specialised, foundation and practical understanding of the area of computing.

On successful completion of this programme, graduates should be able to successfully secure professional roles at entry to mid-level positions in Computing and Computing-related industries and progress to leadership or research roles using skills related to those learned in the programme curriculum. The programme consists of 60 credits of taught modules and 15 credits of project or work-placement.

Science in Data Analytics for Business

The Higher Diploma in Science in Data Analytics for Business postgraduate course aims to provide an opportunity for learners with a degree outside the computing arena as well as those currently involved within the IT sphere to refocus and reskill for careers that require Data Analytics knowledge and skills. This programme is specifically designed for individuals with evidenced numerate, technical and analytical ability who aspire to work, or are working, in roles that involve data analysis or the interpretation of data to inform business management and decision-making. They will have the opportunity to continue to develop knowledge, skill and competence to remain competitive and employable in an ever-advancing sector.

Data Analytics is among a set of emerging and rapidly developing technologies termed Innovation Accelerators, which have been identified as being critical to the next wave of digitalisation. According to Gartner’s Hype Cycle 2019, over the next decade, data analytics and AI will augment workers’ efficiency, as companies rely on leading tech to beat out competitors.

Computing and IT

On completion of the BSc (Hons) in Computing and IT degree at CCT College Dublin graduates should:

Be Technically Skilled: Graduates will have the clarity and understanding of the subject area to be able to collaboratively diagnose a subject domain problem from the required overlying system architecture perspective. The ability and insight to be able to examine the contributing factors or components needed to develop the system solution (P.R.I.S.M.). Have the technical skills to be able to design and implement solutions across multiple platforms, utilising multiple programming languages to confidently integrate solutions. The graduate will also have the ability to gather data efficiently, to analyse data, to store and secure data, and to effectively deploy and manage enterprise and cloud-based service solutions.

Be a Problem Solver: The graduate will be able to anticipate the changing landscape of IT development, including the nature of problems and a way towards their potential solutions.

Have Professionalism: The graduate will have the capacity to recognise and appreciate the professional responsibilities and ethical implications of computing professionals and the solutions they design and apply.

Be a Strong Communicator: The graduate will be a clear, transparent communicator who understands their audience, ensuring the right level of detail is provided to assist in intelligent, informed decisions. The graduate will be confident in communicating with people encountered in industry including other computing professionals, business managers or executives, customers, or other stakeholders.

Be an Effective Team Player and Leader: The graduate will have the ability to work with other professionals, discussing work and managing and integrating feedback.

Science- Common Entry

This Bachelor of Science Level 7 programme in Bioanalytical Science or Food Science and Nutrition or
Pharmaceutical and Medicinal Science is a broad introduction to this exciting field of science.
This programme will give learners the opportunity to discover which area of science – Bioanalytical
Science, Food Science and Nutrition or Pharmaceutical and Medicinal Science – is right for them.Graduates may apply internally to progress to Year 4 of their
chosen Level 8 programme in either Food Science and Nutrition,
Pharmaceutical and Medicinal Science or Bioanalytical Science.
ATU Level 8 qualifications are recognised worldwide for
postgraduate entry.

Social Care Practice*

Ireland, among other countries, continues to face many social challenges. A career in social care practice
is challenging and also uniquely rewarding – graduates can make a real difference to people’s lives. Social
Care Practice is a dynamic and continuously developing field that is now a professionally regulated career
under CORU, along with other health and social care professions. Throughout this honours degree
programme, students will develop their critical thinking skills, have a greater understanding of human
interaction and how to respond in a professional and informed way to the needs of people who use
support services.

Sociology and Politics*

Taking a combination of Sociology and Politics gives students an insight into how social and political forces
affect our everyday lives and what we can do to effect change. Sociology focuses on understanding and
analysing how human societies work. It studies everyday social practices, as well as discussing questions
around economic inequality, power, gender and race, for example. Politics looks more at the decisionmaking process that groups or organisations make. These do not necessarily have to be governmental, as
politics can be found in most interactions from schools to businesses and religious institutions.

Software & Electronic Engineering

A qualification as a Software and Electronic Engineer is a passport
to work anywhere in the world. Graduates work with the leaders in
software, computers, the Internet of Things, medical technology,
autonomous cars, and telecommunications. Engineers work in many
roles including product design, technical support, research, sales,
and management. Our graduates work in companies such as Cisco,
Intel, Ericsson, HP, Analog Devices, SAP, Avaya, Genesys, Valeo, Jaguar

Sport and Exercise Science*

On this programme, students will learn how to apply scientific principles in order to understand and
enhance sport and exercise performance, health, nutrition and well-being.
It will prepare students to work in the world of sport, helping athletes and teams achieve optimum
performance. It will also prepare students to work in the health sector, helping individuals to manage or
prevent lifestyle-related chronic diseases through training and physical activity.

Sport with Business*

This programme is the first of its kind in Ireland – a three-year honours degree that combines sports-related
modules with comprehensive business education and practice. The programme focuses on introducing
students to business and enterprise skills with opportunities for specific skill development in coaching,
fitness instruction, personal training, education, exercise prescription and health. It offers students an
excellent balance between theory and practice, and equips students with the knowledge and professional
skills and competencies required to work within sport, fitness, leisure or business environments.

Sports & Exercise- Common Entry*

This new programme will provide learners with a strong foundation in the discipline areas of performance,
health and well-being. Students will study topics such as coaching, sports and exercise nutrition, and
leadership and technology. The modules are taught in a practical nature and will prepare participants for
the world of work in sport. In the final year of this programme, students will complete a work placement.
This programme provides learners with the opportunity to combine their greatest passion with a
successful career.
