Education Computer Science and Mathetical Studies
This course allows you to combine
the study of mathematics with
computer science and post-primary
teaching education.
• This is a four-year, concurrent initial
teacher education programme
and includes a number of school
placement opportunities throughout
the course.

graduates will be eligible to teach
computer science and mathematics.
English and Creative Writing
In 2017, 2018, 2019, and again
in 2020, English at NUI Galway

• The study of English is the study
of creative expression in the
English language. We examine
novels, stories, plays, poems,
films, journalism and digital media
by women and men from many
historical periods and from various
parts of the world, including regions
such as Ireland, Britain, North
America, Africa and Asia.

Film and Digital Media
The BA in Film and Digital Media
offers students a unique combination
of theory and practice across the
areas of film and digital media.
• This course provides students with
a comprehensive grounding in
the theory and history of film and
digital media as well as training
in the fundamentals of film
practice, screenwriting, and digital
development and design.
• With a core focus on the
development of critical and creative
skills, the BA (Film and Digital Media)
prepares graduates for a career
in the broad field of the creative
industries, including film and
television production, digital content
creation, cultural administration,
screenwriting and digital marketing.

Software Design & Development Industry Stream
The goal of this one-year postgraduate conversion programme,
codesigned with industry partners, is to increase the supply of
skilled graduates to meet the needs of Ireland’s high-growth
software industry. It provides graduates with a fast-track,
focused computing qualification, and presents them with an
opportunity to obtain valuable industry work experience.
We work closely with our industry partners to provide our
graduates with a foundation in software design, a capstone
project led by industry and a potential work placement to gain
industrial experience.
Students will be eligible for entry into the MSc in Software
Design and Development (see page 214) subject to places being
available and having graduated with a minimum of a 2.1 award in
the Higher Diploma.
Arts Child, Youth and Family: Policy and Practice

Mathematical Science
This course provides students with
a solid foundation in mathematical
science, including all aspects of
mathematics and its applications.
• Students will have the opportunity
to specialise in particular areas,
for example, mathematics,
applied mathematics, financial
mathematics, computer science,
data science, statistics and
bioinformatics.
• Quantitative skills are highly valued,
and this degree prepares graduates
for a wide variety of careers across

Environmental Health & Safety
This multidisciplinary course is
designed to provide graduates with
the knowledge and skills necessary
to ensure the welfare and well-being
of people at work.
• Students benefit from a sevenmonth professional work placement
at the end of Year 3.
• Accredited by the Institution of
Occupational Safety and Health,
enabling graduates to work in a
health and safety role both at home
and internationally.

of environmental health and safety
