Project and Construction Management

This is an interdisciplinary degree course
that sets out to develop the technical,
business, managerial and interpersonal
skills needed to manage large, complex
projects in industry and the public
sector in areas such as construction,
biopharmaceutics, technology and
telecommunications.
• Students of this degree course learn
about managerial and accounting
principles and human resource
management and gain an insight into the
concepts of financial management. Other
areas of study include health and safety
law, quality management and planning.
• The Project Management Institute
estimates that more than 15 million new
project management related roles will
be created globally across engineering
industries by 2020.

Medicine

The Human Biology Building is a four-storey
recently opened building with a gross floor
area of 8,200m² housing the disciplines of
Anatomy, Physiology and Pharmacology
and Therapeutics. The purpose of the
building is to provide a facility in which all of
these disciplines are within a research-led
environment and to:
• Deliver core preclinical curricula to Medical
and Health Science students;
• Deliver core curricula to Science,
Biomedical Science and Engineering
students;
• Provide a venue for postgraduate taught
masters degrees;
• Provide a venue for discipline-specific
training in third and forth years.
The building has been designed as a teaching
and research facility with accommodation
including undergraduate teaching
laboratories, research laboratories, offices,
open-plan write-up spaces, meeting rooms,
tiered lecture theatres and other ancillary
facilities. This facility has greatly enhanced
teaching and research across disciplines,
providing our students with access to cuttingedge research and learning opportunities

Mental Health Nursing

The Postgraduate Certificate in Mental Health Promotion
is a part-time outreach programme (Level 9) that has been
jointly developed by NUI Galway and Mental Health Ireland.
This programme is designed for professionals working in
different sectors who wish to develop the knowledge, skills and
competencies of mental health promotion and its implementation
in practice. The programme’s aim is to provide participants with
professional education and training in the principles and practice
of promoting positive mental health and well-being. Course
participants will acquire an understanding of the concepts,
principles and evidence base for mental health promotion
and the practical implementation of mental health promotion
interventions from a national and international perspective.
Programme delivery is through blended learning with online
course materials for self-study accompanied by face-to-face
instruction through lectures and workshops, with students
attending one day per month throughout the academic year.
On-site delivery will be offered at the NUI Galway campus. This
programme is open to those working in a professional capacity
in areas such as mental health, health promotion, public health,
primary care, education, community work, nursing, social work,
psychology and allied fields.

Midwifery Science

On graduation, students are eligible
for registration on the Midwifery
Division of the Register of Nurses
and Midwives, maintained by the
Nursing and Midwifery Board of
Ireland (NMBI).
• Students get a broad range of
clinical experience in four different
clinical placement sites: University
Hospital Galway, Mayo University
Hospital, Portiuncula University
Hospital Ballinasloe and Sligo
University Hospital.

Business

This Higher Diploma in Business Studies programme is
designed to provide you with a well-rounded understanding
of business. You will be educated in the fundamental skills of
business administration, enabling you to play an active role in
the management and development of business enterprises. All
modules assume that the student has no previous knowledge of
the subject.
This programme includes core modules in Accounting
and Financial Analysis, Financial Management, Principles of
Economics for Business, Management, Marketing Principles,
Management Information Systems, and Innovation: Creativity
and Enterprise. A wide range of optional modules are also
available to students in Semester 2, which include Accounting
for Management Decisions, Macroeconomics and the Business
Environment, Employment Relations, Global Marketing,
Implementing Digital Innovation, and Business Law (optional
modules may be subject to change). The range of modules
available allows students to either specialise in a particular
discipline or to study a broad range of business subjects.

International Hotel Management

programme can study in Bochum,
