Accounting & Finance
To become a professional accountant, you need to successfully
complete three levels of professional exams as well as on-thejob training. If you successfully complete the BA Accounting
and Finance, you will be exempt from the first level of these
professional examinations (CAP1 examinations Chartered
Accountants Ireland and equivalent examinations from ACCA,
CIMA and CPA professional accounting bodies).
You will learn how to compile, analyse, interpret and
communicate essential information about the operations of a
business – whether that business be a small firm, a publicly
traded corporation or an NGO (non-governmental organisation).
You will have the opportunity to pursue a four-year degree with
a work placement in a leading accounting firm or study year
abroad, thus combining what you learn in Maynooth University
with insights into industry or another culture.
Arts (Finance)
The course consists of two semesters of taught modules and a research thesis over the nine months of the academic year. A comprehensive range of modules in Finance, including Corporate Finance, Fixed Income Markets, Derivatives, Financial Modelling, and a broad range of optional modules. Students take six compulsory modules and six optional modules during the academic year which will be centrally timetabled by the Timetabling Office. To assimilate students from diverse academic backgrounds, the Programme Director will advise each student on which optional modules to choose to provide them with a solid foundation in Finance.
International Economics
Be prepared both intellectually and practically for employment in
the highly competitive and dynamic world of international finance.
Use analytical tools – including mathematics, deductive logic and
applied statistics – to examine problems and devise logical solutions.
This degree is not suitable for those mostly interested in the
accounting side of finance (though all students are recommended
to take one module in Accounting).
Business & Management (BMA)
Our faculty are a blend of international and local
industry experts who bring profound insights into
the practicality and complexity of Management.
Management students also have the option
of taking a four year degree with a study year
abroad, thus combining what you learn in
university with insights into another culture.
Management students at Maynooth are offered
unparalleled choice and flexibility. This degree
offers you insights into all of the major functions of
business, as well as the opportunity to undertake
specialist options in the subjects you most enjoy
so that you can shape your degree based on your
own strengths and interests
Business and Accounting
This degree provides a foundation for entering the accounting
profession and other areas of business. To become a
professional accountant, you need to successfully complete

you will be exempt from the first level of these professional
examinations (CAP 1 examinations from Chartered Accountants

If you complete the Master’s in Accounting at Maynooth, you
will be exempt from the second level of these examinations. You
will then only have to take one level of professional exams and
complete on-the-job training to qualify as an accountant.
You will have the option of taking a four year degree with a work

in university with insights into industry or another culture.
Business and Languages
Wide variety of options: Maynooth University offers more subject

Business Studies
The BA (Hons) Business Studies programme provides
each student with a comprehensive knowledge and
understanding of modern business studies subjects and
establishes a firm foundation for the development of a
career in business. Core Modules covered include Finance,
Marketing and Management, along with general business
areas such as Economics and Human Resources. Students
will understand how these areas are inter-related with
other functional areas in order to enable effective strategic
business decisions. The programme is structured in a
way which provides each student with the opportunity to
study for either a general or a specialist Honours degree
in Business Studies. The programme offers students the
choice of four options for the completion of their Honours
Degree. These pathway study options are:

Accounting and Finance
The BA (Hons) in Accounting and Finance provides a
comprehensive understanding of accounting and finance
techniques and concepts, including current reporting
standards and a range of contemporary issues.
The programme provides a comprehensive education
in the quantitative and analytical skills required in the
business world and in a range of accounting practices. Our
degree programme provides each student with an in-depth
knowledge of the area of accounting and finance as well
as the practical skills, both of which are essential in the
rapidly changing and highly competitive world
of business. Students will be able to analyse contemporary
theories and practice concerning financial management,
risk, and the operation of the accounting and finance
function. Our degree will equip students with the capability
to a prepare a range of standard accounting statements
for use by management in a business environment, and
interpreting the business implications of such information.
The importance of new and emerging technologies is
recognised and incorporated into programme content
throughout the three years. This in turn creates a number
of opportunities for advancement within a whole range
of organisations.
Computing
Designed specifically with the needs of industry in mind, the Higher Diploma in Science in Computing Science at Griffith College is a 1-2 year conversion programme, which aims to bridge the gap between non-computing disciplines and computing science. Delivered on a full and part-time basis, as a graduate of this course, you will:

Graduates of this programme can go forward to sit the entrance examinations for the Honorable Society of King’s Inns or The Law Society of Ireland should they wish to pursue a career as a barrister or solicitor.
Students will acquire highly transferable skills attractive to a wide range of businesses, both inside and outside of law, including banking, the civil service, media and other related disciplines.

Students may also participate in our law-related extracurricular student activities, such as the Irish Innocence Project, and join our award-winning students in the Mooting and Debating Societies.
