Business in Project Management
The programme will be delivered across two semesters comprised of twelve weeks each across twelve months. In the part-time mode, the schedule consists of three semesters of twelve weeks across eighteen months.
Semester one comprises a broad overview of project management generally with an overview of the project management lifecycle and an introduction to key frameworks, methodologies, project initiation, feasibility and planning.
Semester two builds on this by covering more advanced modules on project management tools and techniques, collaborative online software and delivering change and innovation. Finally, learners can synthesise their learning in applied skills in a capstone summative assessment – a Project Management Simulation.
Interaction Design and User Experience
Semester one sets out to introduce the students to the importance of design practice, behavioural theory, design practice and technology know-how that is necessary for a career as interaction designer, user researcher, or head of user experience. It focuses upon the analysis, design, prototyping and evaluation of multimedia, multimodal, and multi-platform user interfaces that are easy to use and support a great user experience.
Semester two, builds upon the foundations of Semester One – with more applied structure to develop the learners’ technical proficiencies and aptitudes towards creating value enhancing design solutions. The modules address a wide range of decision-making applications and factors encompassed within the modern IxD function.
The students will then complete a portfolio providing the learners with an opportunity to apply their skills and knowledge gained, and apply it to a creative problem – industry driven – solving design projects.
Science in Data Analytics
The Higher Diploma in Science in Data Analytics is a one year full-time
Semester one lays the groundwork for the programme and encompasses mostly foundational modules that focus on providing a solid and comprehensive understanding of the relevant concepts, a proficiency in the use of programming for data analytics and Statistics for Data Analytics and Databases and Business Application.
Semester two builds on this by covering advanced modules in which the knowledge, understanding and skills acquired in the first semester can be employed. Semester two also comprises an elective module of project or placement module, which focuses on applied skills. The objectives of the programme are to:
Develop learner’s criticality in order to analyse industry trends in Big Data.
Develop learners who are capable of performing robust, significant reports on the future orientation of the field of data analytics with specific emphasis on the problem domain.
Provide learners with a platform to develop the requisite technical and design skills required by industry and to deepen knowledge of statistical analysis and analytical models.
Enable learners to implement scalable Big Data applications.
Prepare learners to work effectively and collaboratively in the execution of common goals.
Provide work opportunities where learners can apply knowledge to a real-world situation.
Laws (Hons)
The Bachelor of Laws (Hons) programme
aims to provide learners with a rigorous
legal education. The programme
aims to create in learners a critical
understanding of foundational legal
concepts and principles, and an
ability to make connections between
them and appreciate the relationship
between the various areas of law. It
also aims to enhance the practical
skills of the learners, such as analysis,
research, communication, interpersonal
and organisation skills. The content,
depth and breadth of the modules on
the programme ensure that learners
develop their understanding across the
breadth of the core legal areas, along
with some more specialised ones, as
well as allowing learners to explore
certain areas in more detail to allow for
full expression of their analytical and
reasoning abilities.
The programme also aims to prepare
learners for progression to professional
legal qualifications in Ireland by requiring
students to develop a fundamental
understanding of the core Irish legal
subjects to facilitate progression to
the Law Society of Ireland (Solicitors)
or the Honorable Society of King’s
Inns (Barristers) Examinations.
At the same time it is recognised that
while, initially, many students will aspire
to qualify professionally and engage in
private practice, a significant number
of our graduates will enter different
career pathways. Accordingly, the
programme aims to equip students for
a range of careers by using teaching
and learning techniques that develop
their intellectual and transferable
skills. These skills are designed to
strengthen their employability in
careers that may be unrelated to
the professional practice of law.
Widening access to the benefits to be
derived from a rigorous legal education
remains the core justification for the
programme. In addition, emphasis
is also placed on strengthening the
transferable skills dimension of the
programme in order to enhance the
employment opportunities of our
graduates.
Film & Creative Media
Year 1 is the Developmental Stage. Students will gain experience in visual and audio techniques.
Year 2 is the Competent Stage. Students will act more autonomously in using audio and visual techniques in the creation of a Creative Projects Portfolio.
Year 3 is the Advanced Stage. Students will perform research and project work in producing a Dissertation providing them with an opportunity to engage in detail with a topic of their choice.

Accounting & Finance
Stage 1 will provide learners with
knowledge of relevant disciplines such
as management and organisation, law
and regulation, Information Technology,
Economics and Accounting and Finance
practice. Learners will also learn skills
relevant to professional practice such as
business frameworks, context, etc.
Stage 2 will build on the knowledge
developed at Stage 1 in economics,
business strategy, regulation and
control in financial environments and
financial management. In addition,
learners will gain an understanding of
principles of professional practice,
specifically finance and accountancy.
Stage 3 will complete learners’
instruction in finance, audit, tax
and financial reporting. Students
will complete their award stage
with a capstone project.
Accounting and Finance and 1 Year Part III ACCA
An honours degree in Accounting & Finance with Part III ACCA Professional qualification is a major step towards achieving that goal. It is a popular choice with students who want to move directly into a career in accountancy as well as those who recognise the value of an accounting degree in a wider business management context. The BA in Accounting & Finance (Hons) with Part III ACCA Professional qualification programme provides comprehensive education in the quantitative, computational and analytical skills required in the business world. Students learn about the role and operation of accounting in a range of contexts, informed by current thinking and research in the discipline.
Students on this course will gain an in-depth knowledge of the theoretical and practical aspects of accounting and finance from both Irish and international perspectives as well as a strong understanding of business, legal and taxation issues and practices. As the course progresses, the emphasis shifts from foundation knowledge to in-depth study of particular areas of the major accounting, business and finance disciplines with a greater emphasis on independent work and on the development of a critical and analytical approach to the subject matter which gives students the confidence to critically evaluate information, ideas and opinions.
On completion of the three year BA (Hons) in Accounting and Finance degree at DBS students can obtain exemptions from Part I and Part II of the ACCA (the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) professional qualification. ACCA is the global body for professional accountants and aims to offer business-relevant, first-choice qualifications to people of application, ability and ambition around the world who seek a rewarding career in accountancy, finance and management.
Students holding a relevant certificate, ordinary degree or other relevant qualifications may qualify for entry to the second or third year of the degree programme.

Business (Cloud Computing)
At Level 8, learners will develop strong competence in Cloud technologies, including design and development using technologies such as Azure, AWS and GAE in the module on Cloud Platform Development. The second Level 8 module, Cloud Networking and Security will enhance the learners skills from their Level 7 modules by practically deploying a cloud network and implementing the security required for a production model.
